ANNAGH GROUP WATER SCHEME CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETY LTD.
BACKGROUND
In 1999 due to the increased demand of domestic usage, while the water was sufficient for agricultural use it was not op to the EU standard for domestic use. Butlersbridge Group Water Scheme employed Jennings O’Donovan & Partners, Consultant Engineers to complete a feasibility study of the scheme. Redhills Group Water Scheme also employed the same Consultant Engineers with the very same mandate. Their findings were that it would be more cost effective to have both scheme amalgamated and have one treatment plant at Annagh to cover both areas controlled and supervised by one committee with representation from both areas.
The Butlersbridge Scheme supplied 270 households including farms; the Redhills Scheme (constructed in 1975) supplied 250 households and farms.
The Annagh Group Water Supply Scheme, which comprises the amalgamation of the schemes took place in the year 2000. The supply area now extends from North West of Cavan Town to the south east of Belturbet, and Redhills village and its surrounding environs. The scheme was recently extended (February 2005) to supply the village of Ballyhaise, located centrally between the Butlersbridge and Redhills supply areas.
